PR: The Perfect New Winter Song: Winter Builds Character by USPOP
Minneapolis American Britpop group USPOP has the perfect new song for winter. USPOP [say it like “bus stop”] will release their first single “Winter Builds Character” with B-side “Keep Calm and Carry On” February 14.
“Winter Builds Character is something Britain and Minnesota have in common – we’d both say that,” says USPOP songwriter and singer Peter Davies. “Winter is better. Colder is warm. Don’t be afraid. It’s a rock anthem of love for winter.”
USPOP styles themselves after British guitar bands from the 1990’s such as Oasis, Blur and the Verve. They play loud, swirling guitars, wear sunglasses, track suits and parkas and speak in British accents, insisting from the start that they’re American.
“The accents are fake, but the music is real,” says Davies from the stage. Comparisons, though, they aren’t having any of it.
“We’re like Oasis, Blur and that lot. But we’ve got better songs,” says Peter Davies.
“We play their songs better too,” adds brother and lead guitarist Kent Davies.
Besides brothers Peter and Kent Davies, USPOP features long-time session musician Grant Hughes on bass and Minneapolis producer Russel Banks on drums.
“We had to write Winter Builds Character because those bands haven’t bothered to write anything good for 20 years. Winter Builds Character is better than anything Noel Gallagher has written since What’s the Story Morning Glory,” says Davies.
USPOP is working on a forthcoming album they hope to release in 2025. “Winter Builds Character” is available on major streaming platforms February 14.
